The first case of a new type of mpox virus was found in Sweden. This was said by the Minister of Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed who held a press conference.
He said it is serious, but the health care system has processes and procedures to deal with it.
– we confirm that we have an mpox type case in Sweden. The one called clade 1. Of course it’s something we take seriously. At the same time, this is work that health care and regional infection control departments can do.
There are two types of mpox, formerly known as chicken pox. Clade 1 is the most severe variant, which the person in Sweden has.
Olivia Wigzell of the Public Health Agency said at the press conference that the person sought care in the Stockholm area after a trip to Africa. She was the first person with mpox clade 1 to be found outside of Africa, according to the Public Health Agency.
